I have an old friend, Nick Woods, erstwhile architect and now artist and grand schemer. Nick owns a little old plywood yacht in our yard that he heroically holds in a state just beyond sinking. Sadly, his eyesight is not all that it was and last summer, he stopped me on the river wall and said, “I’ve seen a River God! I looked out and saw this bronzed god in a boat on the river with a nymph”. His wife told him not to be silly, and that it was Simon delivering a pile brushwood to a salting.
However, he announced that he had made a painting, which he duly gave me. It is so hilarious that I thought it worthwhile sharing.
